Why am I so weird?  Strange noises resonate in me.  I find myself tapping my toe to an un-tuned guitar smacked in tempo.  From the bag of Hader.  I should have known just seeing the name of the band and album.  Kinda reminds me of Deerhunter or  a less poppy Dr. Dog.  These people do not think in typical ways.  My people.  This music calms me.   Lots of dissonance. Great bass tone. 4/5

Devin Townsend Project - Z²

Prog rock,  super produced.  In the vein of Ghost and TesseracT.  I just imagine a sea of spikey jewelry.  Its always such a shame to me because they are always so musically gifted.  They just use their powers for Hot Topic.  Thinking hard, I feel like music I connect with comes from within.  Music like this comes from outer space, like the artist are searching for something.  A new sound, a grand sound.   Evanescence notes now.  Subjectively not my thing, and 2 discs of it.  Midnight Sun's mandolin is pulling me in.   If this trend continues through two discs my score will increase from the two it is now.  Universal Flame's all male chorus, really?  I'm laughing at you, not with you.  An unexpected ABBA shows up in Silent Militia. Ziltoidian Empire was almost worth it.  Oh yeah, its a concept album.  I can't be bothered to listen to lyrics.  Demoted.  I can't abide by the Meg...

Blur - Modern Life is Rubbish

From the Pringle Man Collection.  I am a fan of Song 2.   Ever since it was in every movie trailer some year in the 90s.  I am also a fan of Gorillaz.  So here we are.  They are cool and British.  I can't localize the accent though, to them, this could sound like country bumpkin music.  To me it just adds a bit of flavor, and authenticity.  This album was a treat.  Blue Jeans may be a new anthem of mine.  4/5

Wings - Wings at the Speed of Sound (Archive Collection)

It's a master class in pop songs.  The Beetles and McCartney are both really influential to a lot of music I like.  Doesn't mean I have to like the inspiration.  It's like eating raw sugar.  It will taste good, but I kinda like the derivatives better. Maybe the archive b-sides will add a point. 3/5

The Purest Blue - All is True

I was singing Filipino karaoke with my mother last night.  It got me thinking "I could listen to contemporary Filipino music"  This is what I found.  They wouldn't be out of place at the 9:30 Club.  Ethereal and soft sung.  Has electronic elements reminiscent of Postal Service.  It's the new lo-fi.  Lots of tech, but low experience.  Not that its unpolished.  Innocent may be a better word.  To my ears from Manila.   I will be following them with interest. 4/5

No BS! Brass - Alive in Richmond

Image
They are so lit, they are local, and they remind me of marching band.   Brass without ska.  4/5

Sunset Rubdown - Shut Up I Am Dreaming

Avant garde.  If you are brave enough to be unique, you will not be liked by everyone.  2/5

Death Cab for Cutie - Transatlanticism

In some ways I have to go back to work tomorrow.  In other ways,  I called in and extended my vacation.  Lazy posts 'till Monday. This will probably be the last time I listen to this album as a whole.  I find the man that related to this music is very far detached.  I can inspect the memories with cold objectivity.  The old man scientist and the young lover under the microscope of memory. 3/5
